Must be a bit weird being @molcher.bsky.social, on the one hand your book keeps becoming more and more relevant (yay!) but then at the same time your book keeps becoming more and more relevant (shit!)

“I am not interested, nor will I ever be interested. I'm 61, and I hope to be able to remain uninterested in using it at all until I croak. ... The other day, somebody wrote me an email, said, ‘What is your stance on AI?’ And my answer was very short. I said, ‘I'd rather die.’” 🫡
Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro says 'I'd rather die' than use generative AI
Del Toro's new Frankenstein adaption reimagines Mary Shelley's 1818 Gothic novel. Frankenstein was like a tech bro: "creating something without considering the consequences," he explains.

We are not trivialising LLMs.

Copyright theft is not trivial.

Environmental damage is not trivial.

Unreliability is not trivial.

Risk to human cognition is not trivial.

Ignoring consent when shoving it into every fucking thing while making us pay our hard-earned money for it is not trivial.

There's a REALLY quick and easy survey for the public consultation on the Basic Income for the Arts scheme - it only takes a few seconds, anyone can fill it in, and it could make a huge difference to arts workers in Ireland. Take a few ticks to places a few ticks here: ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/run...

It's publication day! Time to plan my traditional tour of bookshops that might possibly have it in stock and admire it on a shelf.
Gee, what a good recommendation. I should definitely look into this new book. And such a reasonable price!

A table full of people at this pub are having a singsong. Belting out Celine Dion and Alanis Morissette at the top of their lungs. It's infuriating and infectious. Staff are hoping they'll leave, but also singing along under their breath.

Found this on Reddit. Tiger has three eyes. Such a dismal world we’ve given ourselves.

Sinners is fucking brilliant. The best vampire movie of the year (which is big considering Nosferatu is right there). Hell, it’s the best original vampire movie in who knows how many years.

I came out of the cinema with an unshakeable smile on my face.

This would be a really great time to put Conclave back on the big screen.

On the flip side, Sinners being packed out in my local cinema feels good and appropriate.

I had a lovely time at Itzacon in Galway this weekend. It's great to get back there.

This year I ran a highly unorthodox and experimental pub quiz. Beyond nerdy trivia, it involved a wasteland racetrack board, heavily modified dinky cars, specially created ability cards, & dice!

Why are RPG core rulebooks are coming without character sheets these days? I know we can print them from whatever publisher website, but that's not the issue.
With a new book I'm always flicking to the character sheet to contextualise rules as I'm learning.

Just finished reading The Game Changers by @timclare.bsky.social and immediately feel like recommending it to all the gamers in my circles. An earnest and insightful look at the history of games, and our need to play them.

Nice people are struggling over the revelations on Gaiman, and something I keep hearing is, 'His work had a big influence on how I shaped my own identity.' So here's something to remember:

You did that. He didn't do it for you. 1/

I've had a brilliant New Year's Eve, and incidentally, 40th birthday party.

It's appropriate that my twin and close friends would club together to get me the 40th anniversary edition of Neuromancer.

Still one of my all time favourite novels. Thanks

Personalised the sketchbooks I got for my niece and nephew's Christmas presents by painting their names on them.
It took more of last night than I expected.
Anyway, today's sleep deprivation is brought to you by the colour Yellow!
