I hate it when my kids buy me something with 'World's Best Dad' on it. Because it's so blatantly not true, and makes me realise what a failure of a father I've been.

Parked up at a hotel and every time I open my boot I am ambushed by swans and geese. Is this normal?!

Today I Vibe Coded for the first time in Go. Yes I’m ashamed, but I was in a rush, the company pays for GitHub copilot and it was a simple problem I just didn’t have head space to solve myself.

The code works, it’s an internal utility, harmless right? 😅

ECHR offers protection against unfair dismissal from work, protects pension rights, maternity leave rights and protects women getting divorced. People who think it's a good idea to leave should be ridiculed like flat-earthers. The ignorance is astounding.

Pre-ECHR, rights were almost completely at the whims of the current parliament - which doesn't always represent public majority. The Bill of Rights of 1689 could be very easily abolished by parliamentary majority.

The ECHR created a set of rights that have an external guarantor. That's the point.
Leaving the ECHR won’t “Take Back Control” – it will hand your rights to politicians
The myths are seductive, the reality is very different – without the ECHR your freedoms rest on whichever Home Secretary wakes up grumpy

This is bloody great and should be read by everyone in the UK
No, the ECHR isn't the EU.
No, it's not a "criminal's charter."
No, it's not optional.
Yes, I skipped out on Below Deck Down Under to write an explainer.

(Also, it’s probably too long)

47 people were injured in Liverpool. Four of them were children. And the far-right’s first instinct?

Blame brown people.

When the facts didn’t fit, they pivoted - because outrage is the point.

On narrative control, culture wars, and what this tells us about the populist playbook:
What the Liverpool Attack Tells Us About the New Culture War
The populist right's response wasn’t about victims - it was about narrative control. And it’s becoming their only move.

Age of Empires II and its expansion - The Conquerors - was peak perfection when it comes to real-time strategy games. After Microsoft made the dumb decision to shut down Ensemble Studios, the franchise went completely downhill from there. AOE2-style games need to make a comeback.
