So Justin Trudeau is now saying the tariffs have been paused for 30 days as they implement a new border plan.

Basically, after the markets freaked, Trump backed off of the threats while Mexico and Canada essentially promised to do things that they were already doing.

Trump has exactly two talents: hitting the serotonin button of America’s worst people, and separating marks from their money. We’re going to see a metric ton of both over the next four years.

Not to be alarmist, but please be prepared for many gov services to vanish or be horribly downgraded in the months to come. While continuing to push national and local electeds to hold the line, think about non-gov groups that are supporting folks in your community and consider how to support them.

Over the last five days, we’ve been witnessing remarkable, even miraculous mutual aid happening all over the city of Los Angeles—but esp. Altadena—, done by ordinary Angelenos, some also fire victims, who care deeply about their city and it’s ppl. We’ve shared those experiences here. Take a look—
In LA's darkest moment, the light of tireless Angelenos providing aid, food shines bright | Opinion
Amid the destruction in LA, there are glimmers of hope. Angelenos everywhere have heard the call for aid and stepped up in remarkable ways.

Navigating the Nonsense and Propaganda of Clownish Authoritarianism
Ignoring what Trump says won’t work. Constant outrage is not a viable strategy either. We must find a more productive way to engage Trump’s dangerous outlandishness

I'm a believer in smart policy, but all the finger-pointing in the LA firestorm about hydrant flows and LAFD budgets seems like arguing about the adequacy of Hiroshima's 1945 building code standards. It's a way to evade the big questions.

The real story is that 2 weeks before Trump retakes office, the most wealthy/powerful people on earth have decided to *publicly* embrace him because they have calculated that being in his good graces will help them more than any public backlash to *openly* joining his fascist movement will hurt.
