It’s not that hard, it just takes time. The current strategy of plopping small movies on 1000 screens for three weeks is guaranteed to fail.
“.. Rolling out a little movie — even with a big star — has become very hard,” says a Hollywood talent agent .. “That’s the death of the independent film business that no one is talking about.”

This is an extremely cool story
Last up today and one of the most exciting things on our radar...

Our friends over at the #AnimationObsessive Substack (subscribe!) have broke the news about our work on what was essentially a lost film for a VERY long time, #RoyFromSpace (1983)!

Our 3yo woke up at 2:30am and needed to get up for a while because he was too “inspired” to sleep. He said he needed to draw pictures for us. For his Mom, he drew a happy sun. For me, he drew “Mustard Penis,” a guy who shoots mustard from his penis. I have annotated the drawing with his explanations

Rock Hudson was born 100 years ago today. Long undervalued as an actor, he knew exactly how to shift the smallest muscles in his face to move the whole screen. My favorite performances:

Saw this passed around and honestly think a major problem in society is far too much of it is organized around children and it has infantilized adults

I have a pretty wide latitude for this sort of thing, but Godard’s EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF is one I have a really tough time squaring. I think it’s exhilarating, insightful, and deeply loathsome. Reading about its production only bolstered this discomfort. But it is, still, regrettably, really great.
So because my friend Austin is having a bad day because of some holier than thou assholes who can't seem to understand film and art is subjective, I want to know what some of your favorite problematic movies are. I'm talking about movies that if you were asked on a first date what movies you love...

The larger discussion of all this is wrapped up in a contemporary notion that I find puzzling of Total Person Endorsement. Nobody can just give props to a single thing people do or make, they feel they have to like and approve of everything about them in order to do so.
You can think it’s good that Massie and MTG are stirring up shit within the GOP caucus without thinking their politics in general is good. It’s not hard at all in fact?

I'll be interviewed along with two families from There Is No Place for Us. It would mean a lot if you'd watch and help spread the word.

Just woke up from a dream that I saw an alternate ending to RETURN OF THE JEDI that cut to a three-minute scene in the (then-modern) 1980s of a father reconciling with his estranged, now grown children, which faded to a single shot of Luke and Yoda making pottery. It was unbelievably moving.
