Leaving aside the chutzpah of a Cuban representative to call upon the norms of democracy, this is absolutely stunning (including to the U.S. Ambassador to the UN).
This is fucking amazing

It's not fucking piracy! States can't commit piracy, and calling it piracy absolves the US of responsibility and says that the individuals who conducted the strikes were mutineers. It's an atrocity crime and deeply illegal but not fucking piracy. Not everything involving boats and violence is piracy
Washington Post edit board: There’s a name for attacks on civilian ships on the high seas: Piracy. That’s also an unfortunately plausible description of the Trump administration’s bombings of vessels around South America that it says are carrying drugs. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

Guillermo del Toro on wealth: "a wealthy man is a man who has enough, not a man that needs more. If you have enough to invite someone for a beer? You're rich. If you have a yacht, planes, islands, and you still need more? You're not rich."

The Guardian is reporting that since Israel and Hamas signed the ceasefire and full hostage exchange agreement, Israel has violated the ceasefire 47 times, killed 38 Palestinians, and wounded another 143 more.

Meanwhile Hamas has released all remaining hostages.

Nothing like presenting at a conference in South Africa. Once outside you have an audience that may be a little different.

Sourdough, one with kalagand(like barki, but creamier) and the other with saag, chili chutney and fried egg. An abomination I know but some days you crave home and miss your mom.

This is such an important distinction.
The West is not supporting these states. It depends on these states. Huge difference. From their perspective, they support us, not the other way round.
And the entrenched bias in the international community against Israel cannot be wiped away by crying out loud that its current government is radical.

And no. If we are okay with supporting Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan, then drawing the line at Israel would be a ridiculous double-standard.

Today it's how this gets employed to argue that the Nazis were a downstream product of American racism rather than that there were transnational influences and inspirations for specific ways to institutionalize racial hierarchy via the law.

Academic writings may constrain expression. It is with gratitude to find Southern African Public Law, which allows for a variety of expression.

As South African, we are always at pains to talk up the developed cities, but here I am on my usual commute, as always seeing the 'bokkies' at the Austen Roberts bird park.

It's the welcome to the new cohort of students at university of Pretoria (UP) aka Tuks. One of students happens to be mine, I am so proud of her and grateful that she chose the place that positively impacted me.

THREAD: In 2023, I received an envelope with no return address. Inside was a flash drive containing tens of 1000s of secret files.

It came from a vigilante with a tumultuous past, who'd conducted a years-long undercover operation. He didn’t tell the FBI or his family. He only told me.

Exactly why I liveskyed instead of livetweeted the martial law invalidation vote, despite having 23k followers on Twitter and only 2k here at the time. The number of people quoting me with “Bluesky’s got the juice” was so heartening 💜 Also the fact that we saved Korean democracy live on social media
