You absolutely never know how long it will take the screenreader to describe an emoji; there's probably never a good reason to put emoji in alt text. One terrible example: "🕴️" - my phone reads this as "man underscore in underscore business underscore suit underscore levitating."

I've seen some posts suggesting day drinking to deal with today's news, and I want to offer some suggestions for how to get through today if you don't want to drink, or use drugs. I'm going to suggest these things as someone who hasn't drank or taken drugs in over 9 years. I hope they help.

my hottest educational take is that schools should actively, non-punitively teach students how to admit when they don't know something, aren't sure or have made a mistake, with various teaching frameworks adapted to support this ideal, because people who can't admit fault are breaking the world
