People passed as far back in newspapers as the 1890s? Or I have seen some very old clippings in Wisconsin Desth Trip. The first I saw as a child myself was the 80s. The wife in the case wasn't misgendered and the fact she was transgender wasn't even a main part of the story. Deliberate ignorance.
