So, so excited that this paper is finally out! As someone who detransitioned, gatekeeping didn’t help me. Instead it caused me many problems in the short & long-run but experiences like mine are often used to argue for more gatekeeping. I’m happy to help with a paper that challenges that narrative.
Gatekeeping does NOT benefit detrans people.

i wrote a paper from a dataset that only had dem, GOP, or independent as multiple-choice options, but there was a "something else" and a write-in option. a full 20% of our respondents chose to write in an identity that falls under the broad umbrella of leftism.
