It's my first Thanksgiving, in many years, where I didn't get to hear Pierre Robert of WMMR introduce Alice's Restaurant.

Guess it's true, all good things do come to an end

While the 100k poverty is hyperbole, the fundamental point that the calculation for what the poverty line is, needs to be reevaluated, still holds
oh my god that stupid "$100k is the new poverty line" slop got published and i'm sure you can guess where

Too big to fail?

Fuck them.
James Bond supervillains threaten to blow up the world with their big laser unless you pay them a trillion dollars.

Real American supervillains embed themselves in the economy and threaten to cause a depression unless you subsidize their sex robots and the weird chatbots they use to avoid humans.

It may not be very nice of me to say, but if they make an order of magnitude number of errors (like it was with rockets) Darwin may just kick in
I wrote a very quick piece on this.

What a fucking moron, i am quite sure he remembers annual Labor Day Muscular Dystrophy Assoc telethon.

The main beneficiaries were children, you know, because (at the time) many people who were born with it, didn't reach adulthood

Just makes dumping my cbs/paramount subscription all the easier.
I would love Discovery, the Acolyte, and the Star Wars sequels out of spite if I could.

Fuck yeah!
Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino personally participated in an ICE raid at a laundromat in the city. However, the owner locked the doors and refused entry, which halted the operation at the site.

My wife not only knew that it was a nazi symbol, she pegged it as an ss one. She is not particularly into war iconography either

Fuck right off with your nazi acquiescence
Nobody in this country knew what that skull meant. I didn't even know til after Trump's first election in 2016 and the Charlottesville chaos. That's when all that underground culture became public knowledge. Platner is the best candidate to lead the party.

You are full of shit. Boys like war, and boys learn about WWII, Vietnam, and Desert Storm. Thanks to the internet, as well as television and movies over the last 80 years WWII iconography (including Nazi iconography) is well known.

If you put a Nazi tat on your body, you know full well what it is

$250 million for a ballroom that will be so hideous guaranteed
Scoop: Trump has started demolishing the White House's East Wing facade to build his ballroom. The president had claimed construction of the $250 million building wouldn’t ‘interfere’ with the existing White House structure. /W @ddiamond.bsky.social wapo.st/4hqBNiU

Sometime after it came out that Chinese workers were committing suicide, i had been to a Foxconn factory in the PRC.

They indeed had nets in the stairwells and 8 foot fences along the perimeter of the roof to prevent suicide attempts.

Honesty, i just want the damn thing to write the unit tests

Beyond that, i want it to check C code so i can stop hearing about Rust 😉
I am not surprised that there’s a ton of professional software developers out there who *hate* coding and are stoked at the idea of letting AI do it - that’s what happens when we spend 15 years telling everyone that coding is the ONLY financially-stable career!
Using AI to code feels like the "AI fucks my wife" poem. I am genuinely surprised at the sheer breadth of programmers who turned out to not actually like programming

My better half asked me of I got the 10th off. There's no chance in hell that my company would give Indigenous Peoples Day

They barely stomach MLK Day, asking people to do service. Why do that, on the only US holiday for a person of color?

Let MLK have his day, and make 9/11 the day of service
Me: You don’t have Columbus Day off?
Wife: No.
13yo: What’s Columbus Day?
Wife: Indigenous people day.
13yo: oh, we have that off. Sorry you don’t mommy. Daddy, did you know Christopher Columbus sucked?
Me: :).

He's the only reason I subscribe to HBO <add current modifier here>
John Oliver's show is such a fascinating public display of research and teaching in an era when both are so aggressively devalued.
John Oliver's segment on presidential libraries is a must watch for anyone interested in public history. I don't entirely agree with his conclusion, but this an excellent introduction to the weird world of presidential foundations and NARA.
