So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

I was very impressed with the Museum of Civilization in Quebec City for tackling the topic of crowd behaviour, both physical crowds (think arena events or public transit) but also digital crowds and the important topics of media literacy, conspiracy theories, and their effects on society.

In a recent visit to Montreal I saw this starting to happen too, although at a slower pace. They’re building continuously rather than fighting tooth and nail to do one project and then doing nothing for months or years and then trying again.

@viarailcanada.bsky.social May I suggest taking inspiration from best aspects of rail systems around the world rather than the worst aspects of air travel. I’d still rather take the train, but the approach is incomprehensible.

I’m a big fan of the Bike Valet in Victoria so it was great to see one at Granville Island in Vancouver this weekend. Being able to enjoy a meal or shopping without worrying about your bike is great on so many levels. #yyjbike

There are so many cool things to visit around Victoria. Most are accessible by bike with a bit of ambition (and could be much more accessible with political will). Today it was Shirley Delicious and the Sheringham Point Lighthouse. #yyjbike

I’d love to see people respond with pictures of where this still exists! Parts of Victoria, especially James Bay, seem to have held on to a bunch. Whether new ones could be created is another story.
In the plans I’m working on, I call it “corner convenience.” Allow stores, services, restaurants/cafes within a workable form/scale at EVERY corner in the city/suburb. DON’T require parking, and allow housing above.

Stopped by Mt Bagel today. Before it was a beloved neighborhood bagel shop it was a commissary kitchen (helping launch “That Brown Girl Cooks!”), before that it was a corner store. If the building ever needs to be rebuilt it would be illegal to operate any of these here. Let’s #LegalizeCornerStores

Fantastic idea! And I agree with the comments about kicking Russia out of the Security Council - the fact that they just slid into the USSR’s spot seems like a big failure at the time. The Security Council itself is a big problem of course…
