We're witnessing the most aggressive, fanatical crackdown on free speech in my lifetime. The speed and breadth of government censorship and private sector and nonprofit capitulation has been astonishing. As has the lack of urgency/silence from people who've long claimed to care about this stuff.

A thing I am often pleasantly surprised by is that random people I met on the internet over 25 years ago and thought seemed like good people have, by and large, turned out to still be good people

The decisive test of our society in my lifetime was the 2024 election and our failure was spectacular and total. I will never again have any faith in the American electorate to do the obviously right thing.

As so many public and corporate institutions lose your trust, don’t forget to support the ones that still earn it, especially nonprofits and independent media.
