New article from @profamandaroberti.bsky.social @katiekrumbholz.bsky.social and I! We find that changing the framing of abortion restrictions to focus on "pro-woman" language versus "pro-fetus" language has an effect on pro-choice individuals in particular.

Welp, my work here is done.

Well this one is gonna get weird:

On the plus side, given the disconnected way in which the Court has discussed pot in cases like Morse gives me some hope this one will at least be entertaining to read.
Supreme Court will consider whether people who regularly smoke pot can legally own guns
The Supreme Court will consider whether people who regularly smoke marijuana can legally own guns, the latest firearm case to come before the court since its 2022 decision expanding gun rights.

The surveillance state continues growing like a snowball of shit rolling downhill towards us all.
NEW: ICE purchased custom-made vans from a company called TechOps Specialty Vehicles (TOSV) that are equipped with fake cellphone towers designed to spy on phones.

TOSV president said the company integrates the cell-site simulators into their vans, but does not manufacture the surveillance tool.

The federal contract shows ICE spent $825,000 on vans equipped with “cell-site simulators” which allow the real-world location tracking of nearby phones and their owners.

The weaponization of Holder v. Humanitarian Law Project is coming. Together this is going to lay the groundwork for undermining the midterm and 2028 (if we even get there).
BREAKING: Trump says he is designating “Antifa” as a “major terrorist organization.”

Such a step being taken this way would be concerning enough, given what it actually is, but, given that Trump sees “Antifa” hiding in every corner of opposition, this could be an extremely alarming escalation.

It's Constitution Day, 'yay'. The Constitution will not save us. Checks and balances are not going to rescue us from fascism, rather we are in this moment because of them. If we want to emerge from this, we must confront the inadequacies of the Constitution and we must build the society we want.

Teaching democratic rights in Civil Liberties/Rights this week just got more 'interesting.'
BREAKING: The South Carolina Supreme Court has denied a request to strike down the state's congressional district map that was approved by its GOP-controlled state legislature, finding that claims of partisan gerrymandering are not reviewable by South Carolina courts

There is a clutch of pundits who treat the world like it’s an Ivy League seminar course, mostly because that’s the environment in which they emerged. They think debate and white papers are the pinnacle of political action. They fume at anyone who approaches politics in any other way.

It's not the most important part of the issue but Kavanaugh saying "well they should just sue if they're the victims of excessive force from ICE" when he himself has previously voted to bar lawsuits against federal officers for violations of the 4th Amendment in immigration cases takes chutzpah.
