just saying if one of the 8 folding Dems wants they can use this as an excuse to change their mind and not give Trump exactly what he wants
Buried inside the deal to reopen government is a provision that would give Senators private right of action to sue for millions in damages over their phone records being analyzed by Jack Smith's team.

Wow I am way too distracted from work today because of all of the news, as I was also last week. Turning my phone off now.

Rural hospitals are on the brink of collapse right now because of the 'One Big Beautiful Bill'.
Republicans appropriated $50bn to save them.
Half is equally distributed to states, and half will be discretionary grants from Dr. Oz, formulated on 'MAHA' principles

Schumer's a coward. Shaheen & co. soiled themselves. Yes, yes to all of it. But why don't Murkowski, Tillis, & company even get asked questions? Why do we have zero expectation of them? Journalists don't even bother trying. We have accepted Murc's Law as a constitutional provision. It's maddening.
These 5 people could caucus with the Democrats, giving them a majority & firmly opposing the fascism, any time. It might be nice for an enterprising journalist to ask them why they keep not doing this every day as the crimes & corruption continue & John Thune refuses to fulfill his oath of office.
🚨 The Senate votes 52-48 to overturn President Trump's 50 percent tariffs on Brazil. 5 GOP Senators break ranks to vote against Trump: Collins ME, McConnell KY, Murkowski AK, Paul KY, and Tillis NC.

The BBC belongs to Britain, not Trump. We must defend it together.

I'll just say it, it's antisemitic to characterize Chuck Schumer as the scheming, underhanded, puppet master behind a deal he voted against and condemned publicly. Senators are a law unto themselves and being in the minority takes away most of the wrangling tools a leader has.

So much focus on Schumer, there is a decent case that this should end his time as the minority leader for the dem senate caucus, because he was unable to control said caucus for what should have been an incredibly easy no vote.
But he did vote no, and Durbin did not. So the bigger focus needs to be

I think it's been under covered on here that Rand Paul is (most likely) the only Republican voting no because he thinks the bill is too tough on...the hemp industry.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.
The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.
People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.
And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

The message for Democrats is, "Republicans held food for kids hostage so they could make sure your healthcare costs skyrocket."
Angry as I am with Hassan, Shaheen, et al., the GOP is trying to deny SNAP payments to recipients and to block states' efforts to pay them. They are literally determined to starve the people they see as undeserving.
I've made my position very clear tonight that I think the healthcare fight is too important to leave to a "maybe" future vote but this is absolutely right.
And it's why blame MUST be placed first and foremost on the GOP and their merciless hostage-taking.

Is it problematic to ship James Talarico with Yassamin Ansari? Or Jasmine Crockett with MTG in a haters to lovers plot?
Which single senators, house representatives and candidates should we ship together?

I do not think any of the three names mentioned here to replace Jerry Nadler make sense. Hell no to Cuomo obviously, but also Cynthia Nixon and that whole type of celebrity candidate, and Jack Schlossberg has no real government experience either. I guess of these 3 I would go with Jack, but

I think I definitely agree with Holly Elmore that EA would have been better off not training people in machine learning as it's led to much faster development of AI and reduced timelines, and that OpenAI deserves protests. But I don't think she's going about this the right way in attacking

The whole Walmart Thanksgiving thing is actually a cool moment to teach people about inflation. The 2024 version has both more and higher quality items than the 2025 version, it's not a fixed basket of goods! You need to adjust for the substitution effects to accurate compare prices!

This may change as more votes come in but it looks like all of the YIMBY ballot proposals will pass (hell yeah!) but even year elections and ski for added parkland proposals will not.
