Stop reducing human beings to birthing machine!
Your comment is harmful to millions of people whose harm has been done by the reductive objectification of human beings (women, trans and intersex have been telling you to stop this)

Yup. I was assigned female at birth, but at the age 15 not menstruating, realized I have XX but not female reproductive system. I identify as trans masculine and have been feeling this way since age 7.
Which box do I fit in? LMAO
If they meet me in the street they won't even know I'm different.

Considering a population of 345 million, this is least 25% of Americans affected by “efficiencies” designed to remove humanity from the process of seeking help.

I need an emergency reviewer for a paper about machine translation for finance. Please contact me ASAP if you can review today!

Please boost.

(Was I too naive? Deadline was Monday. One of the reviewers promised reviewing by Friday — already very late! … and didn’t 🤦‍♂️)

I wonder how this compares to EU statistics?

This highlights the importance of protecting privacy rights of all. Often we talk about data protection and privacy in the context of business and commercial risk. But let’s take a step back and remember that privacy is a fundamental human right.

As frontier LLMs get better at taking over your web browser, reports indicate OpenAI is developing its own browser to take on Google and shake its dominance in the industry by combining it with its chatbot.

Even as the DOJ is asking Alphabet to divest Chrome, agentic AI lives on the browser.

Encouraging for open and distributed ML research outside of big companies (though obviously there are limits to this)
A timely paper exploring ways academics can pretrain larger models than they think, e.g. by trading time against GPU count.

Since the title is misleading, let me also say: US academics do not need $100k for this. They used 2,000 GPU hours in this paper; NSF will give you that. #MLSky
$100K or 100 Days: Trade-offs when Pre-Training with Academic Resources
Pre-training is notoriously compute-intensive and academic researchers are notoriously under-resourced. It is, therefore, commonly assumed that academics can't pre-train models. In this paper, we seek...

Huge congrats to @karyna-mi.bsky.social for her paper published today in Science! She found that the hippocampus is really important for a key strategy we use to make decisions called hidden state inference! 🧪 🧠https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.adq5874 1/7
Hidden state inference requires abstract contextual representations in the ventral hippocampus
The ability to use subjective, latent contextual representations to influence decision-making is crucial for everyday life. The hippocampus is hypothesized to bind together otherwise abstract combinat...

Dreaming of Many Worlds: Learning Contextual World Models Aids Zero-Shot Generalization
Zero-shot generalization (ZSG) to unseen dynamics is a major challenge for creating generally capable embodied agents. To address the broader challenge, we start with the simpler setting of contextual...

tech/AI companies are pacing through development/deployment (now "swarm of AI agents" likely to be the new craze), governments are incapable of meaningful regulation (or rather they see AI as an economic opportunity),

ICLR should not allow public discussion until after decisions. It allows Oscars-style award/accept campaigns by high-profile allies. Even for great papers, that can’t be part of the review process. The only reason it didn’t happen before is because it was against community norms, which are changing.
