Really impressed to see applied side of #massspec analysis. Just learned about a forensic assay for ~290 drugs with over 800 transitions - all in a 5 minute chromatographic run. Running on Agilent Technologies 6495D triple quad system with an amazing sensitivity. Pretty impressive stuff.

Starting my #ASMS2025 adventure with Waters users meeting. The TQ Absolute XR is definitely a highlight (we have the Absolute and we like it a lot; an increase in robustness is definitely a welcome feature).
Decent talks. Getting almost too technical at times but I've learned a lot.

#ASMS2025 is just around the corner. This year we will have two presentations (poster and oral) discussing our approach to #LC-MS profiling and analysis of Phase II metabolites in the urine. #teammassspec

Our latest manuscript describes an #LCMS platform profiling Phase II metabolites. We annotated 424 mercapturates, glucuronides, sulfates linked to over 200 environmental chemicals. This demonstrates ILGA's value for advancing #Exposomics

When I began in analytical chemistry, I explored organic and inorganic compounds as matrices for MALDI imaging of lipids in the negative ion mode.
MALDI-MS and MS-based lipidomics were so new that my early presentations fell under OTHER → other.
Things have changed a lot since then.

That will affect KY universities
Source tells me that in at least one state, universities that get INBRE (IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence) money have been told not to expect any of those funds to come in “for at least six months.”

That will basically lock out poorer students from grad/med school.

INBRE states:

NEW: NSF confirmed that they fired 168 employees today, out of their staff of ~1,500 feds.

This includes some people who'd finished their 1-year probationary periods, which were extended to 2-years last month without explanation. More to come.

So, *very* unconfirmed, but I've heard from inside a fed agency that there is a chance a significant chunk of gov websites, in particular healthcare and energy-related ones, might just go dark today at 5 pm because it's impossible to scrub the DEI stuff by then.

OK, we've seen it before—use glucuronidase & sulfatase, hydrolyze conjugates, release parent chemical (or phase I met) & measure that.
Call us crazy, but we thought "What if we just identify and measure all the conjugates instead?"..
So we did. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

My understanding is that clinical trials should not be interrupted, so hopefully the reports about canceled appointments are done... but it's hard to say. If you are a participant in a clinical trial (or at NIH clinical center) and have seen disruptions, I'd love to hear from you—Signal in bio.

I have heard some internal confirmation that NIH study sections are being suspended theoretically under the Federal Advisory Committee Act. Which is insane.
Okay maybe I'm missing it but I don't see much independent confirmation of this, but if it IS happening it is *wild*. It would mean they are literally trying to stop biomedical research from happening.
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
