One of the teams playing in this very game just won the Super Bowl and has been one of the three most analytics-friendly organizations in the league for about two decades!
I don’t get how you can still be an NFL announcer and openly skeptical of “analytics.” Can’t you see all the best teams in the NFL using these strategies successfully and winning games because of them

OMG
analytics is to sportscasters what DEI is to GOP politicians

they always love to use the word analytics like a slur when they can’t explain why their previously held beliefs might be wrong

Also, like, teams are using “analytics” in ways that are so much more complex than 4th down decision-making. The reason that one comes up is because it’s essentially solved and it’s easy to see who is getting it right and wrong

Like, 15 years ago, “analytics” might have been a new strategy from an upstart team looking for an edge. The skepticism was understandable, if closed-minded and retrograde. Now basically every team in every pro league uses them! They’re the consensus!

With Indiana's close win today and Northwestern's loss last night, we've seen a passing of the torch:

The FBS record for most all-time losses has been passed from the Hoosiers (715) to the Wildcats (716).
