It’s killing hobbies and also small-scale ways of making extra cash that aren’t businesses, per se. We spend a lot of time in my household talking about how Discogs is dead and no one can use their little record flipping side gig to supplement their income anymore

I don't want to start a thing so I'll just say that there will never be a good argument for privatizing USPS. That would be like privatizing libraries. The aim of services isn't to be run for profit, they are for serving the greater good, which USPS has been extremely successful at.

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖

Say it after me: Chat GPT is not a search engine. It does not scan the web for information, it just generates statistically likely sentences. You cannot use it a search engine, or as a substitute for searching.

Now. Please never use an LLM for information searches ever again.

We really are doomed if this is how we are going to be educating people.

But we already don't. Our deepest attempts at programming are preempted by branch prediction, OoOE, power+therms, speculative exec, etc

When I use Google now I just automatically scroll past the AI summaries like they’re banner ads
This is really important. Do NOT use the AI summaries at the top of google searches. Ignore them. This is especially important if you don't have any prior knowledge about the topic, but also a good general rule.

Search sources, scrutinize them carefully and double-check with other sources.
Google’s AI Overviews will not only confirm that a gibberish idiom is a real saying, it will also tell you what it means and how it was derived -- often including reference links.
