Today it was cold in Portland, but still went out to do a short march. Also got to see a member of the Portland Frog Brigade talk.

I awake in the desert, but am not alarmed. I walk to a round sign by the highway, and wait.

The bus is coming.

Watching the live feed of the Cuomo election night party and they're blasting "Living on a Prayer." Sorry, you're not halfway there, and you haven't a prayer. :P

Well, at least it sounds like the Blue Jays made the Dodgers *work* for it

I'm learning updates of the World Series game through someone in @escherichiacole.bsky.social 's chat posting updates and it's still exciting/stressful

paul, this is a tweet about silicon valley failing to recognize scifi as being social critique and assuming they were prescriptions for what future society should look like rather than amplifications of social issues present at time of writing.

hope this helps!
"Torment Nexus" comes from this tweet and is often used now to describe the kind of negative experiences you can have with social networks, like getting dogpiled or harassed or being pushed into conflict

There is no way to win this game. There is no behavior that will satisfy them.

You are either failing to live within your means, i.e., swearing off all frivolities like some sort of financial anchorite, or you are ruining the economy by not buying things.
“At the same time, more than half of Gen Z members say they are struggling to make ends meet, yet a majority buy themselves a small treat, such as a pastry, coffee, or sweet, at least once a week. That can lead to overspending…”

Picked up my first ever pair of glasses a little while ago - it's a mild prescription mostly for when I'm driving, but I'm pretty pleased with my choice of frames.

Amazon just announced 14,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $40M last year.

UPS announced 48,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $24M last year.

Intel announced 20,000 layoffs. Its new CEO's pay package is valued at nearly $69M.

This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.

We're 18 days (!) away from the start of our 19th run. Why not spend the next week with us welcoming the volunteers working in front and behind the cameras to keep our show running? Each shift runs 6 hours, features beloved segments, and might just have a few additional surprises or cross-overs.

I think what pisses me off most about the White House ballroom thing is the knowledge that it will look tacky as hell. He wants something like Versailles, but it will just be like the "fancy room" from one of his hotels.

While cooking dinner, my Dad was watching NBC news with volume to the room because Mom's away. They advertised what was clearly a softball story about "Amazon's AI Robot Revolution," and I asked him to either mute that story or put his earbuds in, because I wouldn't be able to deal with that BS.

After a somewhat lackluster turnout for the Labor Day march, Portland showed up today BIG TIME.

Had a good (albeit muddy!) outing with some members of my union local to the Pumpkin Patch on Sauvie Island. Saw a lot of geese and some sandhill cranes.

This is the genius of the Portland protests - they make the claims of lawlessness look not just wrong, but comical

Look, Democratic Party, having two texts in a short time from Gavin Newsom and Chuck Schumer begging for donations isn't the slam-dunk you seem to think it is.
