'Branch Hill Pond, Hampstead.' In the summer of 1821, John Constable began making direct studies in the open air of cloud formations. These were mostly made from the high ground at Hampstead village - an ideal observation point.

News judgements are failing at The Guardian: I am astonished that on the home page of its website this morning, there is no mention of the Ballymena troubles and the need for Northern Ireland to ask UK police forces to send reinforcements.

The same shirt in the same size (116 fits 5-6 yr olds), but one for boys and one for girls. Look at the difference. No wonder even young girls develop issues with body weight and size...

Please repost, if like me, you will never accept Brexit.

It harms the British people. It was obtained through foreign interference and by far the worst abuses of democracy in modern British history, and it robs us of freedom and citizenship.

The Trump administration’s many erasures—its gutting of agencies, cuts to jobs, deletions of government documents—show how absence can do the work of propaganda, doubling as a threat, Megan Garber wrote in February:
Control. Alt. Delete.
Government via keyword is not “efficiency.” It is an abuse of power.

Not being British, I have no opinion on UK government policy, but I can say that food writer and MasterChef judge William Sitwell could only have failed to find any value in Latin through sheer obstinate incuriosity. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/03...
The loss of Latin from schools is a triumph, not a tragedy
The ancient language has little relevance in today’s society so the end of the project to teach it in state institutions should be welcomed

Dreadful headline. My daughter loves Latin & wants to do it with Russian at Uni.Her Latin helps her pick up other languages as well as enriching her writing in english. She's lucky she's at a private school. State school kids shld have same opportunity to learn it.

🚨🚨 Brave contender for speech of the year. Every word of it rings true to me.

Claude Malhuret is a proper role model for European politicians in these chaotic and existential times for Europe.

Take 8 minutes of your time and listen carefully. It is worth it.
