You are looking at an English state secret. In fact it's a plain white page with a recipe for Chocolate Rum cake on it but the important information for our intelligence gathering about the depravity of British cake habits are at the top in a brief description which states that this cake could be served as an afternoon cake. What is this gratuitous pleasure seeking? Is there a cake consumption limit for afternoons in Britain or can one gobble like a demented oinker at the trough? Because I'm there. I'm sure you are too. But anyway, to the next picture, which is the cake in question. Or, as I shall refer to it now, the afternoon delight. You're looking at a triangle of chocolate rum cake being held up on a cake slice like an offering the the eldritch cake gods. This picture is from a cookbook published somewhere in the late 90s/early 00s, which means the icing on the cake is just two piped rosettes of chocolate. Kind of like two stunned swirly eyes at the prospect of afternoon cake. This cake also does not have a soggy bottom. Mary would be sad if it did. She'd probably have shaken her head tragically. Maybe even given it a sad smile.
