I struggle to see why turning ourselves into a society so unwelcoming that even those afraid for the lives are deterred from coming is something we would actually *want*.

Every single media lawyer I have spoken with this weeks agree that the BBC is doing exactly the right thing in admitting a mistake without admitting liability.
What serious lawyer would ever advise issuing an apology while there’s an imminent legal threat? How did the BBC not have lines and briefing ready?

Is it even capable of fighting a case when some near its top seem not to want it to win?

Just some British patriots in Benidorm, taking over a street in Spain to shout in their own language about unwanted foreigners. It’s a blessing that they are too thick to understand irony.

Calm down.

This is an appalling judgment to read. Two Chief Constables found in contempt of court for misleading the court about the existence of video footage. But this was only discovered when the matter made it to the Court of Appeal. Incredible perseverance.

I will restate my modest proposal to save the BBC: ban the BBC from covering itself.

Every BBC scandal goes huge, because every BBC News show wants to assert its independence by covering it prominently, even if several other shows already did. So it gets blanket headlines.

The fact that the BBC has made serious culpable errors does not negate the point that there is a real and concerted right-wing media campaign to destroy it. Both points can be true at the same time and the campaign would not end even if the errors did.
