Via “One First,” my (very quick) attempt to untangle this morning’s 5-4 #SCOTUS ruling in the foreign aid funding cases—and what it means going forward both for foreign aid funding and for the broader Trump litigation universe:

129. Untangling the Foreign Aid Ruling
There's a lot going on in the Court's cryptic, 5-4 ruling in the foreign aid funding cases. Here's my (very) quick attempt to unpack some of the most important takeaways.

Attn: DC #lawsky:

FYI, Trump/Bondi loyalists are currently making a bid to take over the DC Bar: Her brother is running for President and Alicia Long (who I believe is US Attorney Ed Martin's chief deputy right now) is running for Treasurer.

My scoop from Monday has been confirmed (with only difference being that McMahon’s letter came out before the EO.) www.wsj.com/politics/pol...
SCOOP: Now that Linda McMahon is confirmed/sworn in as secretary, Trump will be imminently issuing an executive order eliminating the Department of Education.

I’ve obtained a draft of an email that McMahon will be sending to staff re: the EO and the department’s “final mission”.

Here is a portion:

The minority opinion saying the judge is grabbing power is INSANE [his ruling blocks grab]. I can't believe 4 SCOTUS signed on to that statement. Unpack the courts. Now that 4 are complete partisan hacks, we need about 15 of them - term limited.

In what world does removing the people that pick, process, package, and prepare our food reduce the cost of that food. If we want cheap food, we need to bring more in. Bring back seasonal migrant workers, then illegal immigration will all but disappear.

What news is Trump trying to bury today? Ignore him and focus on restoring democracy. Fix inequality by taking the rich. They are using their spoils to control our media, corrupt our politicians, and leverage us out of our homes. The time of profiting from our labors is over.

Brought to you by a band of 20 somethings with no life experience and no clue what all the government is responsible for that insist on pushing all the buttons and pulling all the levers.
NEW: A source tells me that response teams for FEMA set to deploy to the South Carolina wildfires are unable to travel because their government issued travel cards have had their limits reduced to $1. FEMA response team cards were supposed to be exempt.

Be proud of your nation. We've overcome megalomania and fascism of the highest order before. We are going to do it again this time and anything other time it arises.
Please stop mocking people for talking about elections like “oh isn’t it cute you think there’ll be another election.” You’re discouraging people from voting. Which is exactly what Trump wants you to do.

Wow. This reporter is all the way on top of the OPM email blasts.
Five days ago, I wrote a post laying out how a lawsuit forced OPM to write a privacy policy which constrained Elon's efforts to force the entire govt to beg him for a job.

They changed that privacy policy today.

The Whitehouse needs a pawn shop sign at the door b.c. Trump is pawning off the American future every day. "What do i need to give you politically/personally to make this go away?"
The corporations and billionaires who run them are taking over our government.

Five major financial institutions were all under federal investigation for fraud. All five cases were just dropped by Trump and Musk.

It's now legal to cheat consumers. www.npr.org/2025/02/27/n...

NOONE can even begin to fathom the effects of freezing credit cards for all federal workers - especially DOGE who know nearly nothing about how the government functions on the ground day to day.
In the fine print of a new executive order on DOGE is a 30-day freeze on the use of all U.S. government credit cards

Chief Justice Robert's granted a stay - my amateur guess is b.c. the appeal was last minute with the US saying it can't meet deadline.

Challengers to the appeal need to provide a response to the Supreme Court by Friday - indicating an expedient process

Ok. The real fireworks begin for federal workers. Trump and DOGE wants plans on their desks for massive government layoffs by March 13. Each agency/department to define their own proposal according to extreme slash and burn guidelines.

President Donald Trump's administration says federal agencies should begin planning to eliminate employee positions. The process is known as a reduction in force.

Van Hollen has been showing the messaging leadership the actual party leadership doesn't seem to think important. Talk to us @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social and Schumer. Align the troops.
Make no mistake: this is the next step in Trump/Musk’s plan to slash public services that benefit every American to pay for tax breaks that overwhelmingly support the ultra-rich.

Americans must mobilize to stop them — as we did when Trump tried to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

NYT is not the bastion of free press itnwould have you believe. Silent during the elections, then acts like they have something to say about how bad Trump is AFTER he is elected. Seems they've gone back to graywashing.
The federal government is methodically hunting and rooting out LGBTQIA+ people from service (with the help of alt right trolls) and this is the best NYT could muster.

It’s pathetic and dangerous.

This vote was to start the process of the cuts. It WILL come back for a final vote.

There are some chances to slow or potentially stop it. Need constant pressure on GOP

Focus on GOP swing seats & key committees. Energy & Commerce is where the Medicaid fight will go down. Ways&Means for tax fight.
@aoc.bsky.social
Please explain what just happened. Is there no way to stop this w the reconciliation to be used by GOP to get around the filibuster? Are we sunk?
February 26, 2025 at 3:09 AM
And here are the deficit numbers the GOP just voted in. Around 2 trillion increase a year. Just tack it onto the other 40 trillion they created last time under Trump.
Here are the deficits listed in the House GOP budget outline being voted on this week. You will note that it doesn't come close to a balanced budget.

Great article on what the House actually just passed in regards to the budget / continuing resolution. It's a confusing insiders game.

Republicans in that chamber will need to adopt the budget res to unlock the reconciliation process the GOP plans to use to address border security, defense, energy and tax.
