I like books. Also politics, but I'm trying the 12 step detox programme. Food, music, travel and films get my interest too.

Lake District resident (well, give or take a mile or two).

Um. No. 👀
Introverts: do you ever just agree with someone to end the conversation and keep your peace because arguing feels pointless and you already know the truth, and you just want the talking to stop?

There's a fantastic Wallace and Gromit exhibition at the Harris in Preston. If you can go, you should.

It's finally happened.

I've got to the stage of life where after I wash out a jam jar I say to myself "I'll hang on to that, it's a good size for storing odds and ends in the garage".

Thoughts and prayers for my youth.

I used to tape my favourite songs off the top 40 on a Sunday. Kids these days...
everyone who spent the 90s laboriously and lovingly making mixtapes just dissolved into ancient dust
My favorite piece of content today.

My hunt into the family tree has borne fruit! A distant(ish) relative has got in contact, and has knowledge of the family farm and assorted far flung great great uncles & cousins twice or thrice removed. Amazing stuff, really.

It's occurred to me that my music taste is getting more eclectic as I get older, these are the last three albums I listened to!

One bright thing about BlueSky, I've not once in nearly a year seen a post about that mad billionaire who wants to live forever. I can't even remember his name. Cuthbert something?

Making Shakshouka tonight, first time we've done one. Will either be a triumph or an excuse to order pizza.

Just finished this. It took Rushdie to the Booker long list, but to me it's one of his weaker efforts. The cultural kitchen sink approach leaves the novel cluttered, even if the characters are brilliantly drawn.

Good but not great. Victory City was much better.

Tried a few episodes of The Witcher. I remain unconvinced so far, but there's plenty of stabby stuff that'll keep my attention for another few episodes.

I'd put this up there with Francis Ford Coppola's take on Dracula in the pantheon of great but utterly batshit adaptations.
Watching the Guillermo del Toro Frankenstein film. Mad as a box of badgers. Brilliant. But mad.

Read this thread. This is what @katmabu.bsky.social was protesting, and why she repeatedly says getting beaten up by ICE outside is nothing compared to the torture and crimes being committed inside Broadview. These thugs must be held to account.
A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

How about we just tax the rich?
Rachel Reeves finds herself between a rock and a hard place. Despite Labour’s pledge not to raise taxes, the UK chancellor has to fill a fiscal hole of between £20bn and £30bn. The Treasury is cooking up tax rises for this month’s Budget, but what might be on the menu?

Eaten far too much risotto tonight, which means I now only have room for 2 or 3 leftover Halloween chocolates. The original plan for tonight called for much more.
