Pre-ACA, ~45% of the price of individual insurance plans went to marketing, administration, and profits. (The ACA required that to be reduced to 20%.)
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

“We find no evidence of consumers learning to price shop after two years in high-deductible coverage.”

“[S]pending reductions are entirely due to outright reductions in quantity.”
As the ~discourse~ seems to bend interminably towards Republicans trying to figure out how they can (further) HDHP-ify ACA coverage, it's worth revisiting what is probably our best (most rigorous) study on the effect of deductibles in health insurance.

Apparently President AOC can unilaterally impose a carbon tax day 1.
Fascinating to see the Trump administration argue that the use of state power to extract money from citizens is not taxation if the purpose is to disincentivize some behavior that the government dislikes, rather than to raise revenue. That is not what Republicans used to claim to believe.

How high is $19 in 2028 in Portland ME? It will likely be around 65% of the median wage in MSA (calculations below). This is squarely within the experience of cities that have enacted citywide minimums, as Attila Lindner and I found in our review of 22 major cities min-to-median ratio was 63%. 🧵
Voters in Maine’s largest city on Tuesday approved Question A, a referendum that would raise the city’s minimum wage to $19 an hour by 2028.

If gun laws can pass here, they can pass anywhere.
