In the end, a Constitution’s just a bunch of pretty words on a piece of paper. It’s not a magic spell or a suit of armour or a ballistic vest. It’s a consensual hallucination and it’s only as strong as the people who are supposed to uphold it.
This is the kind of thing that the Founders explicitly designed our constitution to prevent; a president who has seized wealth for his own benefit without any intervention from Congress, which in our system is supposed to be the holder of the power of the purse.

Like saying a guy burned down the apartment complex to distract investigators from finding the body parts in the fridge. OK yes and we will still deal with the murders but we do have to address the fact that the building is now on fire, and that is also going to be a crime requiring our attention.

If it's not regime change, and it's certainly not "law enforcement," let's just call it a nuclear-armed oil heist.

I do not believe in the death penalty for humans.

I do support the death penalty for corporations.

When they murder people, let's dissolve them. Break them up, destroy their technology, nationalize their assets.

…and so say all of us.
One of the key insights for me is that lots of tech that would be great *for me* (e.g. facial recognition for the face-blind) is awful if deployed widely, even to the point of negating my own gains.
Too many people in tech are still missing this — or worse, don’t care.

Perhaps now people will stop wishcasting about the US military refusing illegal orders. That's not a thing that happens. The 100% compliance rate with using civilian boats for target practice was a bit of a tell.

"Ho ho ho remember when we thought Bush was as bad as it got hehehe" narrative always ALWAYS ignores the fact: it's because they were as bad as it was allowed to get THEN. That's how bad they could be at that point and they paved the way for it to be the way it is now. Same as in the UK.

D1) again, this is difficult to pull off at longer lengths. But you don't get good at a thing by not doing it.

E) YOU DON'T GET GOOD AT A THING BY NOT DOING IT done is better than perfect. Don't worry so much about "practicing right" just practice. You can adjust as you need as you go on.

For most of us, out of all the activities in our lives, driving a car is the thing that we do that is most likely to end with our killing somebody.

Yes this. Having spent two weeks listening to the sobbing of a mum whose kid was killed by a driver who was just over the limit... no taxi fare is too big to make sure you’re not responsible for that.

Sorry to be painfully earnest on this one.
This was my parents’ one big rule when paying for driving lessons/ buying a cheapo car for me to use: never ever have ANY alcohol if you’re going to drive.

25ish years later, I stand by it. It’s occasionally cost me in parking fines/ taxi fares, but when you consider the alternative risks…

Imagine if serving in government was as prestigious as landing a job at Google.

In Finland and Singapore, it basically is. Public service is seen as a privilege, a place where the most ambitious people go to solve the biggest problems.

That’s the culture we should be striving for.
