If the BBC is guilty of anything it has been far too ready and willing to follow the right-wing media narratives pushed by the billionaire press barons, instead of pursuing its own independent journalism based on exposing and uncovering the truth – regardless of whether people want to hear it.

There's a lot of gloating around the BBC in the comments, often from nominally left-wing accounts - as flawed as the institution is, I get no joy out of seeing people cheer on the decline of a publicly owned institution.

And, no, Netflix or YouTube aren't going to replace your local news and...
There are many subtle and complex arguments one can have about the future of the BBC — but I guarantee you that no other channel or streaming service will be as committed to factual programming, children’s education, history shows, religious discussion, poetry, arts, or state of the nation debate

Yesterday was great-uncle Wilf's 100th birthday, which he celebrated with a friend who *also* turns 100 this month, and who had signed up for the Royal Marines on the same day as him in 1941.

My grandmother was pregnant for at least ten and a half years of her life. Her firstborn was buried in an unmarked grave.
It is genuinely hard for most people to grasp how poor the past was.

If you’re wondering what a “least weasel” is, they absolutely live up to the name. This is the least amount of animal you can have that can still meet the bar for “is weasel”

You know what we don't talk enough about?

80's homoerotic pro wrestling vignettes.

Designed to introduce new 'heartthrob' wrestlers to an area, and especially to appeal to female fans to attend the live shows, promoters would make these vignettes to sell them and well... Judge for yourself.

the only way Gremlins 3 could be worthwhile is if it does for decades-later nostalgia bait reboots what Gremlins 2 did for cash-in sequels, and completely skewers the entire concept.

But given it's Columbus and Spielberg, two men incapable of irony, it will be done in earnest and suffer for it.
‘GREMLINS 3’ will release on November 19, 2027 in theaters.

Chris Columbus will return to direct.

🏊‍♀️The women who swim at Kenwood Ladies Pond have already made their decision.

In 2024, almost 900 members voted to keep their trans-inclusive policy - a policy that has worked peacefully since 2019.

Now, a small campaign group is seeking to overturn that democratic decision through the courts.

Don Robinson, former chairman of Hull City, has died at the age of 91.

He had been a wrestler in the 1950s and '60s, and became a promoter, working with the great Paul Lincoln, and ran shows across the North of England, including on BBC TV. He also ran tours in India, Sweden, Finland, and Poland.
