Nothing fills me with a sense of dread quite like the work of artist Chris Van Allsburg. When I was very young, his illustrations terrified me just as much as the ones in Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, but in a way I didn't even have words to describe yet. He was liminal before liminal was cool

Also worth noting that he wrote that poem to amuse his children while he was waiting in line at the bank, and now every day someone is trying to tell us that you need AI to tell your kids a story.

learned recently that the guy who wrote "The Night Before Christmas," clement clarke moore, also wrote a takedown of thomas jefferson's proto-scientific racism in "Notes on the State of Virginia," basically accusing him and others of making it up to justify slavery. which, that's right.

Basma has a 9 month old so ensuring she has a warm place to stay over the winter is really important ❤️
I’m sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Basma. Basma was a makeup artist and did eyelash extensions before the war. She lost her home and the tower she worked in was recently destroyed. She has 4 children Tulin, 9, Malak, 7, Kamal, 5 and baby Maryam who is just 9 months old.
