I have no idea whether a particular jury verdict is correct unless I’ve heard the same evidence and received the same written legal directions as the jurors who heard the trial.

Anybody claiming to offer an informed take based on what they’ve seen on Twitter is best ignored.

Juries are randomly selected members of the public. Men and women from all walks of life and all political backgrounds.

Only a moron of irredeemable proportions would even think of suggesting that a jury verdict represents some deep state “two-tier justice”.

Lord Reed’s speech on “Trust in the courts in an age of populism” is well worth reading in its entirety. It’s very balanced, strong particularly on the need for mutual respect, better education & understanding of the role of the courts. supremecourt.uk/uploads/spee...

Two things here. (i) This is a discrimination case waiting to happen: potential indirect relig discrim in accessing a service, with no clear-cut justification defence on the table. (ii) There's also a wider constitutional issue. MPs are supposed to represent & be accessible to their constituents. 1/

Consider the ripple effect: a civil rights violation against one marginalized group today can easily expand to impact others tomorrow. We must stand as one against all infringements, for the sake of our shared future.

Pure scenes in court today as a barrister was testing the honesty of a claimant who had been giving evidence through an interpreter

He proceeded to produce a printout of her LinkedIn profile listing her profession as....an ESL teacher

@civlittweet.bsky.social It's probably a bit late for your webinar today, but: Can a Pt36 offer be valid if it includes a discount opportunity for the other party?

Usual valid terms... and then say a set sum or % reduction if accepted and fully paid in a shorter period than the rules suggest? 1/n

The sheer barefaced dishonesty of a regime that is snatching people off the streets for their speech; painting over testimonials to women & minorities in US history; subjugating universities & trying to crush research into subjects it dislikes, standing as a champion of "free speech" is staggering.

The 31-month sentence for Lucy Connolly for a tweet has been the subject of fierce media coverage.

Here I set out a balanced explanation of this sentence and how, had she not followed good legal advice, the sentence could have been even heavier.
