Markets may be getting this morning's Canadian GDP report wrong: it was mostly boosted by tariff front-running effects, and final domestic demand contracted. A cut at next week's BoC meeting looks unlikely (and may land in the autumn), but there's really no good reason to be bidding the loonie up...

We have been staying near Madrid’s Plaza Mayor so I was fascinated when I came across this 17th century painting at the Prado. It depicts an auto-da-fe, or act of faith, at the Plaza, where the accused of the Inquisition who survived their interrogation had a chance to prove their faith.
