people are clowning on this, but the Canadian mind is cunning, pitiless, steeped in boreal perfidy
The Atlantic suggesting, without evidence, that Canada's Global TV broadcasting the '60 Minutes' segment on CECOT that CBS distributed to it may have been an act of "treachery."

In New York City, one of the arguments frequently made by the MTA against platform screen doors is that they would be difficult to implement because different trains running on the same line have doors located in different places.

Meanwhile, at Shenzhen's high-speed rail station:
Today Futian HSR Station in Shenzhen just installed a dual layer PSD system. Similar to the one I visited in Osaka, Japan; two layers of PSD units can shift around to match the door positions of any train. China has over 50 different HST models with a bunch of different door locations...

This does not have an immediate effect for common devices. Apple, Microsoft and Google each operate their own NTP servers (synchronized with GPS and other sources, and using their own atomic clocks), and other devices use the ntp.org pool.
The atomic ensemble time scale at the NIST Boulder campus has failed.

“The Supreme Court decided not to have a Christmas party for 12 straight years because the justices couldn’t agree on whether to invite the Court’s Black employees” is about as tidy an encapsulation of the Supreme Court’s whole deal as I can think of
The Alarmingly Racist History of the Supreme Court’s Canceled 1947 Christmas Party
The Court held its first-ever office Christmas party in 1946. The following year, the clerks suggested inviting Black employees. It did not go over well.

49. The game isn't over by far. But make no mistake: we are winning. That's something to be proud of. It's something to accelerate. It's nothing to take for granted. And it's certainly no time to take Yglesias' advice and fumble the ball so the other team won't feel so sad. /fin

In Ancient Rome, proof of citizenship was more about vibes than paperwork.
How could the Romans prove they were citizens?

“the sanctity of Roman citizenship was protected less by formal documents of identification and more by two methods. … Someone with the tria nomina being dragged about in a litter by 30 slaves … was obviously a citizen.”
How Could The Romans Prove They Were Citizens?

matt & co’s theory of how public opinion on immigration would respond to new information was simply empirically wrong.
at this point the only reasonable conclusion is they refuse to update their priors w/ new data because the data is inconvenient for them
