This is true. (Also many get upset when they are told by society or upper social class that their tastes are not good taste.)
Who people choose to be with has a *huge* social acceptance/validation component. That's why people get online and share what what they are attracted to and why to strangers. Being perceived as having "good taste" in romantic partners is important for some people to telegraph indiscriminately.

Yep! And I would add that “nice” can also be about performance of social norms in order to gain something.
"Nice" is about wanting people like to you. "Kind" is about caring about people whether they like you or not. Both have their place.
