When wanting to safely cycle to work gets really out of hand.

Stockport and Manchester.
Yesterday at 2pm my train got stuck at Gorton, so I ended up getting the bus.

The 219 is frequent (every ten minutes during the day), and clearly well used (we missed some stops due to a full bus). But it took 30 minutes to cover 2.5 miles. We need fewer people driving into the city.

Stockport has a car problem. And no wonder: there are only four 'high-frequency' (12 mins or less) bus services, and only one goes south of the town centre.

One of the unexpected bonuses of the imminent GM rail fare changes is that Delay Repay suddenly looks a lot more appealing (assuming I buy two singles rather than a return).

Oh good, another Transport Plan. Seems to lack any specific targets and vague on whether ever-increasing private car journeys are actually bad.

“Road transport is an important part of our mix. 62% of journeys to work under 6 miles are done by car.”

Unclear as to what's happening here.

- Is it the fault of the open access train service?
- Is it the ORR trying to blame them?
- Why are terrible people expecting non-London staff to be in the office for 9am?

Not the worst thing reported in this piece. But still.

And as soon as I press send, the weather turns to shit.

Maybe now we'll see some action on pavement parking.
Just as you thought food delivery companies couldn't inflict any more misery on society:

Instead of using lowly-paid gig economy contractors to deliver groceries, they're replacing humans with robots, who, in turn, force humans off the pavement into road traffic.

Very kind of Badenoch to help out Starmer by saying the daftest thing possible, once again.

Second: in Reddish, the footpath-only section of Arthur Street is proposed to be made shared use and the lighting columns moved out of the path, increasing permeability for neighbouring streets.

Deadline also 14 December.

Heading into town later has become The Travelling Salesman Problem, except I also need to avoid all the Christmas markets.

This scheme was completed too late to be eligible for Best Completed Scheme at the 2025 Walk Ride GM Awards.

So what won? Find out next week!

Turns out Skara Brae in Ultima is Skara Brae IRL.
Is it "miles and miles of bugger all"?

I've been set some difficult puzzles in my time as a cycle campaigner, but trying to safely navigate Ashton town centre might be the one that defeats me.
