Somebody needs to sit down with the EC and patiently and slowly explain how encryption works and that there is no way to access encrypted data without breaking encryption for all users, not just the baddies.
The European Commission wants to “identify and assess technological solutions that would enable law enforcement authorities to access encrypted data in a lawful manner, safeguarding cybersecurity and fundamental rights.”
European Commission takes aim at end-to-end encryption and proposes Europol become an EU FBI
The Commission said it would create roadmaps regarding both the “lawful and effective access to data for law enforcement” and on encryption.

When the Patriot Act was passed, libraries got requests for patrons’ borrowing history. We were prohibited from disclosing those requests.
We deleted and shredded those records and stopped tracking reading history for that reason.

It's a disgrace that @sainsburys.bsky.social is happy to jettison its dedicated workers while paying telephone number salaries to top bosses. Its sheer greed is there for all to see – handing out bonanza bonuses for rampant profiteering while workers and customers suffer the consequences.
