Me, putting away all the newborn clothing people bought my baby which she has worn once before growing out of
What I love about that six word Hemingway story, "For sale: baby shoes, never worn" is that in those few words we instantly grasp the sadness of what it is trying to tell us: the baby was so freakishly massive when it was born that it could never wear the shoes its parents had bought for it.

I have told a few MPs this. I genuinely feel a lot of adults hate the existence and needs of young people. Then they act surprised/bewildered that these kids are anxious/depressed.
Kids can't hang out in parks. They can't hang out at the mall. They don't have 3rd spaces because no one wants kids around and then we are surprised when they rely on SM for connection.
If you take that away, what do they have left?

The impacts of locking under 16 yos from their social media networks are now beginning to bite for those young people who relied on them for social connection

We have taken baby for her first coffee shop brunch, hampered only slightly by the enormous pram and how busy it is today. First dry day in a while so I think everyone had the same idea.

It's sleeting outside, so baby and I have not been able to go for our walk, and also she has a sore tummy and has spent the last few hours howling intermittently. But she's finally asleep and I have a new book to read.

The UK creative industries — which contributed £125 billion to the economy in 2024 and supported 2.4 million jobs — are being destroyed by an AI sector that... contributed just £11 billion in the same year and supported only 85,000 jobs.

A few months ago a work colleague was particularly tired in a meeting, and when I asked if it was because his tiny baby had slept badly, he said no, the baby slept great! But he and his wife were so unused to her sleeping that long and they both freaked out and spent hours watching her sleep

Once again tapping my sign: ICE exist in the UK 🚨 They have had arrest powers since 2000. This government - not a hypothetical future one - is working harder than ever before to raid homes and businesses.
Immigration Enforcement raids at the highest level in UK history
Record number of arrests and raids of illegal workers across the UK including 187 raids in Northern Ireland leading to 234 arrests.

I just woke up from a nap and somehow while I was asleep, everyone on the bus has figured out we are not going to the right place

Burr has been really hesitant around me since we brought Baby home but he's just cuddled right up to us, purring away.

The Grok/Twitter/X stuff is horrendous, and I am also really upset by how much I keep seeing the phrase 'child pornography'. They are sexual images of children (CSAM). Porn is adults, and it's perfectly possible for it to be fine and healthy and artistic. The two could not be more unalike.

I had a baby! She is perfect and wonderful and miraculous. Today's milestone: dropped toast on baby while feeding her. And cereal. I am gonna need to build my 'eat one handed' skills

I like the implication in these pictures that on the other 364 days of the year, the zoo has only the vaguest sense of how many lions it should have

Not even the prompts. If you are a Twitter user in the UK and Twitter sticks a Grok CSAM image in your feed for WHATEVER reason, well congrats your device just downloaded child porn. And you are legally responsible for that.
Even if nobody wants to take action against Musk for building a CSAM generator, there are people using it who are based in the UK and those prompts are absolutely something that would get you on the sex offender's register. Absolutely no justification not to try to identify and prosecute users.

Pretty sure we're now at 'no photos of baby at all on social media' because this very literally makes me want to throw up
Elon Musk chatbot repeatedly making CSAM on demand should be one of the single biggest stories right now and it's effectively a collective shrug instead

It is very very cold, but no snow forecast here. Probably lucky because I'm heading into the city for a nice day of shopping.

The “political leaders are just always unpopular now” idea really does let Starmer’s operation off the hook for its deliberate efforts to alienate their own base.

The upsetting their own voters bit worked like a charm. Whatever else the plan was supposed to deliver…less so.
I mean look at these graphs - 82% of 2024 Green voters disapprove of Starmer, 64% of LDs and 53% of the Labour voters *who explicitly voted for him less than two years ago.* That is not normal. I suspect it may be unprecedented.

Today I have been mostly super tired and grumpy, plus the cat was unexpectedly sick everywhere (on the new hard floor as opposed to the new carpet, at least). Tomorrow will hopefully be more productive and less eventful.

This is true and I was the only one on set excited about it (and playing the song on my phone to blank stares)
Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

I did like 80% of assembling an IKEA daybed but it's facing the wrong way and I need my husband to help me turn it around. Currently fighting the urge to just disassemble it and rotate it myself.
