My disembarkation from a flight returning from New Zealand was delayed, because Helen Mirren was also on the flight, and had to be ushered out past the press pack before the rest of us could get off.
Please quote this with the time you didn’t interact with someone famous - eg one time I was in Cardiff the same weekend as Willem Dafoe (but I didn’t see him or even know he was there until he appeared on the telly later)
Please quote this with your major interactions with massive celebrities. eg “I was married to the pope for fifteen years”

Die Hard is a Christmas movie, but not intentionally. They rented the office to film in over the Christmas break and the decorations were already up. McTiernan didn't want to have to take them down and put them back up (risking losing his deposit) so he rewrote the script to set it at Christmas.

THREAD.

3 years ago, with no warning, a brilliant orange farm cat wandered over from the draughty barn where he had been living, in rural Cornwall, and decided he wanted to live with us instead.

We decided to call him Jim.

This is the first photo I took of him, on that night: December 1st, 2022.

The genuine instances of the passive voice in this quiz were correctly identified by me.
When I found an example of “passive voice” (that wasn’t) being condemned and a “correction” proposed that actually was passive voice, I included it in a quiz theweek.com/articles/445... but some people got distracted by the subject matter of the example
Grammar quiz: Do you know the passive voice?
Many people claim they revile the passive. But most have trouble identifying it correctly.

Got partway down this thread and just started sobbing. For all the best reasons.
What's your favourite British things? I need a load of iconic stuff and I'm rubbish at patriotism or remembering. Stuff like the Mini or the Queen or the Beatles or Jaffa Cakes or the Hay wain or Big Ben, what are the first (good) things you think of?

Quite why I've been waiting at least 20 minutes for a bus that's supposed to run every 12, when the #Bristol service I use isn't on strike, I'm not sure. #Stagecoach
