Tbf even as a Sonic fan I’d argue that HVerse hatred is a lot more intense than anything I ever saw Sonic get. It’s uniquely gross and parasocial. It’s evolved from ‘Lets critique the creator / show’ to ‘It’s open season on everyone who is even in proximity to the show’.

I get why Sonic fans being defensive for their favorite games.
For those who were born after the Nintendo DS, Sonic fandom was the internet's favorite punching bag in the 2000s for multitude of reasons.

The argument of “(insert famous person) can’t take criticism” on social media is almost always used in bad faith. It’s never about what flaws the individual should improve on. It’s wanting to destroy that person’s life and face no bad consequences for it.
