I lost my dad just over a week ago. Grief is weighing hard on me. I wish I could talk to him again.

Crap like this LLM would make me want to bite something.
You know what, I have literally millions of words written over 40 years that could be compiled into an LLM representing "me" and still wouldn't come close to being me at all, your grandma's recorded history is confined to a bunch of extremely brief Facebook posts, how's that gonna go
IN DEPTH | If you could speak to your dead grandmother forever, would you?

I am generally a fan of everything T Kingfisher writes, but SNAKE EATER is absolutely incredible, and I happily lost a whole Saturday to it.

If Podcast Descriptions Were Accurate:

"The dumbest MF you have ever encountered and his massively pedantic (and also often confidently incorrect) friend badly explain a 50-year old sitcom."

My absolute favorite thing about SIM will always be what Matt does with his fleeting moment of restored vision.

Saying this here b/c I was reminded of it and my wife is very tired of me telling her about it.

I am so glad Avengers Academy is getting a physical release, because today's issue reminded me of how much I love it.

"But why," I hear you ask me, "if you invariably loathe the main couple in Marion Chesney's Regencies, do you keep reading them? Even the ones you read when they first came out?"

Because this one has a serial-killer grandma, and that's pretty typical. I don't like them as romances, but they're fun.

I have to stop asking why people in the reading and writing hobby are opposed to reading &/or writing.

I have listened to enough ttrpg podcasts to know that people in the clicky rocks and maths hobby (for an audience!) can't or won't add two single-digit numbers.

The price of eggs in the US is spiking, mostly due to #H5N1 bird flu. Solving the problem requires urgent, important communications from the CDC & FDA* and rapid development of research by the NIH**

Egg prices are soaring again. Here’s why and what to expect
Bird flu has killed millions of hens in recent weeks, shrinking the supply of eggs and hiking up prices at grocery stores.

Can we add "death of the author" to the list of terms that need to be taken away from fandom due to repeated misuse?

I may just be cranky because of all the time I spent in college slogging through Barthes.

Zero. Either I read it or I don't. And there's a lot I just don't read.
I feel like my Marked For Later list is out of control so will you make me feel normal and tell me how many pages yours is?

I spent DECADES training myself not to be someone who fucking hates people.

A couple of years of seeing *everyone* who is not personally endangered by covid stop taking a few tiny precautions, which would allow thousands of us to continue living like human beings, undid it all.
the response just pisses me off cos so many people will just not acknowledge the part that covid played in his death because it’d mean they’d have to acknowledge their mistakes too. it’s never too late to start masking again. if you care about people then can you just fucking act like it. please.

I have watched exactly one (1) inauguration in my life, and that was because we watched it at school. I am not changing that because some random dingus thinks I have to
I see some people are demanding we watch the inauguration and I'm all, motherfucker, I didn't watch his first one and spent four years actively avoiding the sound of his voice, what makes you think I'm going to do any different this time around

You know how we keep having to argue with asshats that writing about "bad" things doesn't make you a bad person?

Writing about "good" things doesn't make you a good person, either.
So: there is sadly little to no correlation between one's real life acts and the acts described in one's fiction.
And no moral value in having known a person was problematic before others did.
It is ok not to have known.

just a psa buckaroos you can still be informed citizens without wolfing down non stop tromp for the next four years. its okay to participate in resistance in your own way that is not 'approved' by the lincoln project
I am seeing so many posts on social media about boycotting the inauguration. Don't you dare. Don't you dare turn your eyes away from history, even the awful, scary parts. If you don't watch it with your own eyes, you rely on others to tell you what you saw. We must all bear witness to what's coming

My Co-founder Josh Weinsch took this photo of his little daughter’s bike, which was in their driveway when they evacuated. Their neighborhood was vaporized.
