*extremely* telling that the NYT frames a family leaving a state because their trans son literally could not get the medical care he needed as a "politically motivated move" and an abstract "issue" rather than one connected to their child's intrinsic humanity www.nytimes.com/2023/10/07/u...

Rules to survive in New York:
* Swat 665 home runs after your contract is purchased from Boston
* Transcend the sport by getting a sad disease named after you
* Rely on friendly press to hide your crippling alcoholism
* Coin a lot of funny sayings
* Club 62 homers en route to an MVP season

It's good that the president thinks it's a good idea to visit the picket line, doesn't matter how cynical a calculation it is, because no president in living memory has thought the same
President Biden joined striking autoworkers on a picket line in Michigan, in an extraordinary show of support by a sitting president. The United Auto Workers must negotiate separate deals with General Motors and Stellantis on issues, including pay. nyti.ms/3taFgwV

Speaking as a boat expert: This is one of the primary reasons why boats traditionally use a ship's wheel to control the rudder instead of a third-party XBox controller
A wild detail in my friend Susan Casey’s new article on the Titan submersible fiasco—a fight during an earlier dive that ended with Stockton Rush *throwing the submersible’s controls* in anger, which seems like a bad idea?

Yes. Metal detectors at sporting events isn’t normal. Security guards in every space isn’t normal. The switch from a default of being permitted to go anyplace that wasn’t specifically forbidden to being forbidden to go everywhere by default unless permitted is bleak.
