Finished a draft chapter today for my little book Listening to #EarlyModern Travel writing. The chapter is 'Earwitnessing and the authentication of experience' and it argues that travel writing was not just an eyewitness genre; that 'seeing' was a multisensory experience... (1/2)

SHARDED MEDIA
This book shows how the election of Donald Trump in both 2016 and 2024 is not a fluke but rather a symptom of a deep crisis within representative democracy

This book is very good - and makes a lot of the Scary Math Stuff accessible to a generalist audience without pandering (a real feat). highly recommend to everyone who feels AGH about statistics and AI.
Posting this so I can pin it. This is my most recent book about artificial intelligence, statistics and capitalism. It was written largely before the most recent AI boom, but feel that everything I wrote is even more true today than when I wrote it. (also available in Spanish, Japanese and Korean)

Having said that, I have a ton of pictures of them ! Lol #fungifriends #fungi #naturephotography

Most scholars I know--affiliated or not--just want access to resources behind paywalls--subscription journals, databases, books. No one I know is going "gee I wish I had AI tools to mine those resources for pithy, questionable syntheses." They can't even GET TO the resources. THAT is what they want.
