Is there good recent historical work on the Barbary pirates? I know Colley has written about narratives of enslavement, but is there anything by someone using non-European sources in a significant way? 🗃️

IMPORTANT: The Dutch invested €595 million annually on urban biking, resulting in €19 BILLION saved in public health care costs alone. That’s how smart governments do the math on investing in better mobility.

Let’s be clear— it wastes public money to NOT do it.

Our community center is trail oriented development and the "traffic" reflects that fact.

Design cities to enable safe, efficient active transportation and you'll get just that.

I want to make a personal request to those of you who use a bike for transportation purposes to start taking more photos and posting them.

You can do so much by showing even the most mundane errands with a bike to educate and inspire others. They're often more effective than words. 📸

Any Minneapolis friends know someone who was in a bike on bike crash yesterday on Blaisdell south of Lake just before 5pm?

My friend was hit and is trying to get in touch with the other person (described as a man on an ebike), as she didn’t get his contact info.

Exceeding the cruise ship industry, cycle tourism has an annual economic impact of €44 billion in Europe. Girona is visited by 44,000 cyclists each year, boosting their economy by €89 million. Tourists like us, who rent e-bikes for the 80 km round trip to Sant Feliu de Guixols.

All the signs in the world will not keep us safe if every design element is telling drivers it is correct to go faster than is legal.

MNDoT can & should move away from the outdated 85th percentile idea. It would keep drivers safe. It would keep first responders safe.

This is exactly right.
Very important line here from Transport Secretary Louise Haigh on road safety:

"We treat road safety in a way as if it is somehow a natural accident. If the number of people being killed or seriously injured on our roads, were being killed in any other way, we'd be treating it as a pandemic."

One annoying thing about historical research is looking up how long it took to get from A to B in the US by train in 1880 and then looking it up now and realizing it was faster in 1880.
