🧪IMPORTANT! This graphic explains how science all over the US is funded. Congress approved a 2% increase in the #NIH budget for FY 26.

Buried in the bill-
Shift of ~40% of grants to MYF. This will still result in a 35% DECREASE in the NUMBER of grants funded per yr.

Russel Vought is behind this.

The reason that SpaceX is going public and announcing nonsense about data centers in space:

1. The outside client launch manifest is flat and becoming more competitive
2. The total TAM for starlink was never going to justify the valuation
3. Growth for commerical/residential Starlink is shrinking

"And the doctor took this little flashlight, a little flashlight with a magnifying glass on it, I guess, and he looked in my ear and he said, with tears in his eyes, he said he could see my big beautiful brain in there, working hard and churning out the smarts, the chimneys smoking and everything"
Trump: "I took my physical. I got all As. Everything. But they said to me, 'would you like to take a cognitive test?' I said, 'Is it hard?' They said, 'yes.' I said, 'Well, I'm a very smart person. Who was the last president to take one?' 'No president has ever agreed to take one' ... I aced it."

Still reeling from the Stanford report on Brexit. Reduced GDP by up to 8% and investment by as much as 18%. The UK Treasury would have £40 billion more each year if Britain had remained in the EU. Devastating self-immolation.

This man lives in a delusional fantasy and the press had half the country believing the other guy was out of touch.

MIT prez wrote: it "would restrict freedom of expression and our independence as an institution" and "is inconsistent with our core belief that scientific funding should be based on scientific merit alone."

In 2016 Hinton predicted that AI would replace all radiologists in five years. Ten years later, why hasn't it happened? This post is a great explainer.

AI isn't replacing radiologists
Radiology combines digital images, clear benchmarks, and repeatable tasks. But demand for human radiologists is at an all-time high.

Sure looks like Stephen Miller is saying to do away with free speech to silence, jail, and crush those who speak out against his efforts. And the "free speech absolutist" Elon Musk is agreeing with him.

Can't believe so many people still claim that he's a "free speech absolutist."

There’s literally an entire documentary about the tradition of lynching postcards.

Engaging in and celebrating political violence has a long, grim history in this country.

That’s not to say it’s a good thing (it isn’t!), but “this isn’t who we used to be” is wild self-delusion.

Worth mentioning that major scientific papers used to regularly be in German not English—with lots of early discoveries in physics, chemistry, engineering, and sex science, because Germany was among scientific superpowers before the Nazis got ahold of it.
“We are currently governed by a leader indifferent to scientific consensus if it contradicts his political or economic interests, hostile to immigrants and intent on crippling the research universities that embody our collective hope for the future. The menace now is within.”

Donald Trump Jr. is an adviser to BOTH Kalshi and Polymarket, btw

(this is deeply weird for all of the many reasons having Don Jr. as an adviser is deeply weird, AND also because the companies are the two major competitors in the prediction markets space)

This, people, is what ended the emergency phase of the COVID pandemic. Despite what RFK Jr says.
