This is some scary shit you guys. Two pillars of the community—middle aged white guys no less—arrested because some off duty cop bastard sitting several booths away in a restaurant claims to have heard them “plotting against law enforcement.” We’re in the “ears everywhere, trust no one” stage of it.

People get tired of hearing it, but I don’t care because it should be repeated incessantly: if Obama or Biden or Kamala had openly called for the execution of political opponents, the reaction of the NYT would have been *cataclysmic*. The earth would quake with their outrage & disdain.

It’s widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort — specifically, if you don’t have to work at getting the knowledge, it won’t stick.

Even if an LLM could be trusted to give you correct information 100% of the time, it would be an inferior method of learning it.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

He's flailing on the economy.

He backtracked on the Epstein files and lost control of the GOP.

His plot to steal the 2026 midterms is faltering.

She knew abortion was illegal in Texas, but thought there was an exception for women like her, whose health was at risk. Doctors told her there was no emergency.

Then she died.

The thing about authoritarianism is that for a lot of people, life stays basically the same. Until one day, it doesn’t.
1. If America were fascist right now, I would not be posting here. Neither would you.

Instead, I - and you - would be trying to build networks of people *offline* who can support and protect each other, in the dark, rather than yelling at the president and his stooges in our own names. /2

This is an important new line being crossed. Trump isn't just pardoning the act of attempting to overthrow the government on January 6: he's pardoning *those people* for committing crimes generally. He may be creating a group of (federally) legally untouchable people.

That was a big part of this protest: it began w/clergy asking police to let them into the facility to offer pastoral care.

They were denied.
