Remember, Tulsi Gabbard claimed Assad didn’t use chemical weapons, it was “the rebels.”

Her confirmation hearing will be brutal, if she even makes it to there

i love (read: don't) how all the anti-PP canadians have made it here so just like the blueonlybots they will like and repost any single image that says trudeau is great

like i've made my mind up that the libs are the least bad option next federal election but who honestly thinks trudeau is great

this might be slightly off base but i find the americans saying we will become hungary where democracy is dead at least slightly insulting
sure hungary is an electoral autocracy but tell all the people who will vote for tisza in 2026 that their country can't be saved

4 out of 10 people detained in HK’s prisons have not yet been tried or convicted of any crime (every quarter sees a new record high).
Breaking: at 30-Sep-2024, the number of people on remand (presumed innocent) in HK jails is a record high 3,794, or 39.95% of the prison population excluding immigration detainees. webb-site.com/dbpub/jail.asp

I'm sorry, but "raw dogging the air" is just breathing. Wear a mask if you want, but seeing your fellow humans as fundamentally "disease laden" who are intentionally killing elderly people is not mentally healthy. People are just living their lives, and infectious disease is a part of society.

the most surprising thing to come out of yoon's self coup attempt is the large number of hardcore DPP supporters who somehow found it in them to defend a post blithely making comparisons (image below) between SK and TW in a self-congratulatory tone, really makes one look at them differently

i think the yoon attempted self-coup is a harbinger for the next few years (decades?) of democratic rule

people do not realize that the wolves are at the gates
People -- including some poli sci or DOD colleagues -- who think this will be like 2017 again just do not get it. I will happily accept mocking in 2026 if I'm wrong.
Senate Republican leaders are signaling they’re comfortable with Trump dismissing FBI Director Christopher Wray, and GOP senators sound open to confirming Trump loyalist Kash Patel.

yes American restaurants swipe your card and that’s technologically backward but Canadian restaurants recommend tip on after tax prices so i bet that the average person will lose more money tipping on tax than they will by fraud (if at all since both actually quite rare and the bank will save you))

lol but the real point here is that everyone in the replies thinks the US should cut military spending

i have never understood why americans since 2015-6 have thought so little of the US's power and never will (granted, american cities don't make me think the US is the #1 world power, but still)

seeing michigan vs ohio state posts all over my feed compared to ucla vs usc having no relevance in the big ten... blowing up the pac-12 was such a bad idea and this was totally predictable
hope the big ten money is worth it (definitely not for 'olympic' sports tho)

I’ll hazard my 2024 take on the phrase “Hong Kong is dead” verbatim, which is that the old Hong Kong is kind of mostly dead, but the remaining small bits are dying really slowly such that they are still here ish and do influence the new Hong Kong to some hard-to-tell extent

For some reason I suck more at proofreading for grammar in tweet/skeet form (aka I just have word vomit for thoughts and it shows)

2019 was obviously the single most influential year (and event, because the year in a standalone context relating to Hong Kong is clear enough about what event, that’s how influential it is) in Hong Kong’s history, though a thought I’ve had recurring since is that a lot of the long term changes…

We all know the people haven’t changed. They haven’t been remade, they are just being held down

an understatement to say that it is premature to make claims of what will happen, let alone comparisons with afghanistan 2021, but it'd be funny if assad fell before tulsi could even get confirmed as dni (which would still be absolutely awful regardless)

arguments against rearmament since 2022 pretty much all fall back into "well I don't think Russia/Iran/[aggressive regional power of your region] could do this to ME WHERE I LIVE" and that's 1) just flat out wrong 2) rather selfish, ignorantly so
