I never knew that my time working at Pizza Hut was not the best time to be working there. I was too early.
Pizza Hut Wild Style Pizzas (1992-1992): A line of pizzas marketed as "crazy" and "outrageous" , featuring new topping and sauce combos. Check this 🧵to see the (supposed) wackiness!

My first philosophy paper at university i tried to argue against Descartes position that there was a god because something something geometry, and i wrote that circles in nature generally weren’t perfect therefore not a proof. i wasn’t good at philosophy but this post reminded me of that lol.
People were arguing in my mentions today about whether the Earth is "round" when it's technically an irregular oblate spheroid and look "round" doesn't mean "absolutely perfect sphere" it means round. A soccer ball is round, a cantaloupe is round, a fluffy borb in winter is round, just go with it.

I love a spooky night, when the sky is that right deep blue black and the houses look all rocky tacky and you know the ghosts are about even though there are no ghosts. Unless the cats start chasing shadows on the walls and then you just leave it all to the universe to sort out.
do you believe in ghosts or are you like me, a person who finds themself saying all the time “I absolutely don’t believe in ghosts, but this place has ghosts.”

I feel like this article definitely needs to be grandfathered into the internets Tom Holland Umbrella repost requirement. This is awesome.
just learned we won an award for our blog post about Tom Holland and stormwater management.

remember, when you see an article about stormwater management, you repost it. i don’t make the rules.
What Tom Holland’s historic lip-sync showcase taught us about stormwater management

It seemed like it had to be satire for at least 5-6 paragraphs. Realizing it wasn’t…🤢

i both love this question and am fully paralyzed at the many many books i have been informed by.

Top two that come to mind: Mists of Avalon (it was my hideaway through all of university), Foucault’s Pendulum (had to read it under my desk in senior french class because i *needed* to finish it).
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

I have come back to this multiple times today because i keep glazing over at the utter fuckery they are spewing hoping maybe if i reread it it would make some kind of sense. it does not.
F*ck off.

Here's the latest drivel from our boy Ross. The 'too many female vets' part made by head explode.

"the feminization of veterinary medicine has not led to the collapse of society, and is unlikely to do so. I think it’s basically fine, but ——"

AND the drastic outlier of Saratoga Springs NY creating a repub majority city council. Not fun to have to be the exception that proves the rule, or something.
There is an entire PhD about the 21st Century to be written among the intersection of three events in the last 24 hours: Dick Cheney's death; McClatchy (key to disproving Iraq War lies) closes its DC bureau; & the US elects first Muslim mayor of NYC and first statewide official ever (in VA).

I am not a professional writer but so much of who I am is what ai write - the reams and reams of never to be seen ponderings stacked up in my closet. AI won’t ever be able to give me what the act of writing does.
That’s the other thing that baffles me about AI and creative writing, actually.

The work IS the joy for me. I don’t want to be able to snap my fingers and have a completed “product.” I want to be transformed by the process. I’m an author but I do this because I enjoy the rigor of being a writer.
In terms of process, I enjoy writing but revising????? Oh, that’s my real kink. A second or third draft???? A fourth???? Making tweaks on my desktop AND my phone???? *moans* I’m a WHORE for revision.

Remembering how aggravating my friends with numbers that had lots of 8s and 9s - so long to dial, without considering if you messed up and had to restart!
If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.

I know not everyone is who they thought they would be under a fascist, authoritarian regime. That's okay. But it's time to do more than react and post about it. It's time to get organized—including mapping or creating lines of support and defense in your community.

This worksheet can help us prepare for Trump's military interventions at the neighborhood level.

this piece has been in the works a while but honestly i could not have asked for a better foil than ezra klein's interview with ta-nehisi coates. klein longs for peacetime--but you don't get to decide when you're in a fight.

Democrats Must Embrace War Mindset
We have exited a long period of peace and entered into a struggle not unlike war, in which all the old certainties have gone malleable and the future of the republic is at stake.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright on Fox: "We're announcing today expanded programs to help the American coal industry. We're helping it because for years it has been under assault. It was out of fashion with the chardonnay set in San Francisco, Boulder, and NYC ... coal just makes the world go round."
