Støre gives same answer each time: decision is made independently by Norwegian Nobel Committee, with no role for Norwegian gov—a concept Trump appears unable to grasp.

I’m familiar, by the way, with the argument that we just aren’t appreciating the NYT’s subtlety here; that it’s actually a searing indictment of this group of elites, just in a “show me, don’t tell me” kind of way. That take relies on ignoring that it’s in the New York Times.

It is astonishingly ugly. People I once thought were decent are spouting delusional, baseless, vile stuff about what they "know" Mamdani believes and about what he's going to do. In NYC, this has turned into a real "Well, now we all know who we are" election. There'll be no bridging that rift.
I really like how Zohran Mamdani has run a campaign that is so focused on making New York City a safe (including from the fascism of our current federal government) and affordable place for all its residents, and I am really appalled by how racist so much of the opposition to his candidacy has been.

The shocking thing is that I can easily imagine making a normal case against Mamdami, based on policy disagreements, experience, etc. Instead, it’s all the crudest, most repulsive racist BS—not even coded dogwhistles. I’d like to believe direct bigotry will turn voters off, but I’m worried it won’t!
