"It's not what you say about the issues; it's what the issues say about you" latest in a series
Been on trail w Andy Beshear, thought this riff on why inclusive language can be unhelpful was interesting

If Democrats are going to achieve majorities that can stop the wreckage they need to build a bigger coalition.

That means accepting people into the coalition who didn't vote for Harris/Waltz but who also don't support Trump's policies.

Telling them "you did vote for this" doesn't help.
New piece: Most Trump voters did not "vote to deport moms." They voted bc inflation was high under Biden, to deport criminals, or something else. Many do not support Trump's policies. Welcoming those voters back into the tent is key to future Dem victory.

Not all Trump voters "voted for this"
Trump’s policy agenda is very unpopular, including with many of his supporters. To win the next election, Democrats need to welcome regretful Trump voters back under the tent

Tim's point cannot be said enough

The desire by highly-politically engaged liberals to dunk on people who are different undermines efforts to build a majority coalition.

When someone says they're frustrated by the GOP Dems should emphasize common ground and places of agreement.
i really, really need people to understand that they *didn't* vote for this, no matter how much you insist they did. insisting "they voted for this" elides the information environment that led them to vote the way they did in the first place, the thing that actually needs fixing.

HAPPENING NOW: Bail hearing for Rumeysa Ozturk, the Tufts PhD student who remains in detention in Louisiana after she was taken from her home in Massachusetts by masked immigration authorities.

The hearing is before a Vermont judge. Ozturk is appearing virtually from Louisiana.

To be dissed by one pope, Mr Vance, may be regarded as a misfortune; to be dissed by two popes looks like carelessness.

An important point

Some things in politics have not changed much. The GOP is ultimately constrained by public opinion, especially non-MAGE center/right opinion.

There may be a lot of pain between here and there. All the more reason to change it as fast as we can.
Last point: the goal of protests (and direct action) isn’t to target the dictator, but to shift the public. The way to bring down dictators is through building a movement so large that the regime can’t continue.

Dictators want people to be afraid. Movements win by making participation feel good.

The impulse for Democratic party leads to get "back" to normal points in the direction of more failure and more disappointment.

It's a cliche, but there is no going back. There is only the present and a future that will only be better of Dems fight for it.
New, free to all: The Signal disclosures implicate every facet of the failing but power-mad Trump administration. But for it to become an ur-scandal, Democrats will have to push hard, into places that generally make them uncomfortable. www.offmessage.net/p/the-everyt...
The Everything Scandal
This week's signal disclosures should infect every corner of the Trump administration, but Democrats will have to press the case relentlessly

It is time for Democrats in the Senate to replace Schumer as leader of the caucus.
Can you spare a minute to help this campaign?

Any Senate Democrat who votes for cloture should have to spend time at schools across D.C. answering questions about why they care so little about the lives of D.C. residents.

@joshtpm.bsky.social What is the process by which a conference in the United States Senate, representing a particular political party, go about replacing its current leadership?

Back in October, 2002, the version of the GOP led by the Bush family pushed hard for Congressional authorization of force so that they could invade Iraq.

Then, as now, the conventional wisdom of Democratic party leaders seemed to be that there was only downside to opposing the coming war.
