“Last year’s close call exposed a critical vulnerability, when we came within 30 minutes of exhausting our water supply on the eve of Independence Day —a near crisis that affected nearly a million residents and visitors,”

We did what now?
#ICYMI: We’re taking a major step toward strengthening the District’s water future.

Today we launched Pure Water DC, focused on long-term resilience and exploring a potential second source of drinking water.

100% true!

On a bike, we're more equal as a family than in a car, where we, as parents, sit in the front seat and direct contact with our children in the back is much more superficial and functional.

Cycling together creates memories; driving together doesn't!

Gotta say watching this Ken Burns doc on the Rev War and all the talk about troops being sent in during peacetime to occupy a city really hits hard…

Waiting for the C51 at the bus stop and I swear I can hear a choir singing in the Cathedral. Very home alone moment.

It doesn’t make any sense but we don’t care: Brian and I agree that no amount of money we could suddenly win would be able to replace the community of friend and family we’ve built in Shaw and could get us to leave. Proximity and closeness and community is more important to us than money.

This week I wrote about the rise of the e-bike dad - this piece was originally going to run alongside the story I did in September about the bike boom in general, and we didn't have space in print, but here it is:

Sometime I think about how I pass by 4 different school zones on my walk to work after dropping off Jack. And yet without fail every morning there’s some driver who tries not to have to stop for me in a crosswalk.
