one of the grimmest things I’ve ever read, but happily it does contain the phrase “mysterious constellation of brutal practices”
Pointed out by my friend @carloshasanax.bsky.social . There's something weird and unsettling about a fairly homogeneous culture spread out across Europe that then collapses into an orgy of genocide.

"Daylighting" is the practice in urban design of restoring buried rivers to the surface.
The River Sheaf been unburied in Sheffield city centre, after 100 yrs in the dark.
Fabulous.

"There was an owl liv'd in an oak
The more he heard, the less he spoke
The less he spoke, the more he heard.

I’ve been thinking about how a lack of listening leads to a lack of learning which leads to a lack of understanding and therefore a lack of compassion.

I am going to try to have more of a “shut mouth, open ear” policy.

The witch knows where the genii locorum dwell. She knows their names. More importantly, when in conversation with them, she understands to listen more than she speaks. The witch that does not listen to the land is turning her back on wild wisdom. – #EmilyCBanting, 1981 #WitchSky

Made the annual pilgrimage to see the gingerbread lady with the blown out crotch. There is a presence at this site that is ancient, heavy and holy that protects this eerie little shack in the midst of the often updated shrine and you will never be able to convince me otherwise.

Of all the forms of divination gifted to the witch by nature, my favourite is cloud-telling – nephomancy. While you can consult old tables of meaning, good divination is rarely reductionist. We look up for omens , for wind-pushed augury and in doing so, see ourselves.– #EmilyCBanting, 1982 #WitchSky

For its it November – once called Blōtmōnaþ, the month of sacrifice. The year has turned to cold knives. It offers nothing but a stinging, frigid clarity. In frost-cracked fields that leak starven ghosts, all augury cannot help but mention the coming of death. – C.L. Nolan

Elmer Fudd is in bed with a beautiful woman, but she's sad. She says she feels all alone in the world. Elmer says, "The treatment is simple. The great bunny Bugs is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up." And the woman bursts into tears. Says, "But Elmer...I am Bugs Bunny."
