2/ I stayed by Monica Moreta-Galarza, who was seeking asylum with her family, until she was discharged from the hospital.

“Over [in Ecuador], they beat us there too. I didn’t think I’d come here to the United States and the same thing would happen to me,” she said in Spanish.

It’s really wild how there is no reason to deport anyone, let alone children and US citizens and LPRs and students and people undergoing cancer treatment etc. it’s all a fake solution to a made up problem enacted by violent racists who are stealing from you

Van Hollen’s trip to El Salvador is a form of embodied protest and helped put Trump’s illegal deportation of Abrego Gracia on the front page of the NYT two days in a row.

As Bayard Rustin once said, “The only weapons we have are our bodies, and we need to tuck them in places so wheels don't turn.”

No one seemed to be talking about nonviolence anymore. How could they? “It’s all lies,” one veteran activist told me. “Human rights, international law, justice, all of it.”
Late last year, @Harpers sent me to the West Bank to report on the state of the nonviolent resistance movement. Nothing I had seen over more than a decade of reporting there prepared me for the levels of fear and devastation I encountered.

Harvard must come out and very clearly state that criticism of violence committed by the Israeli government and assertion of Palestinian existence and rights are not antisemitic. So long as they bow to the IHRA definition of antisemitism, they’ll be standing on one leg in a fight they can’t lose.
