New blog post up. It's about a few things—chiefly, the impulse to jettison literary criticism as if it were ballast. www.arcadence.com/abundance-re...
Abundance Reigns!
The Reminder is a watchword: though it may ascribe a problem to us, the offenders are assuredly others.

Okay, yeah: Endless Mode is now The A.V. Club Games. We speedran this thing. Same editors, same writers, same content, just a different but familiar site. www.avclub.com/new-games-se...
The A.V. Club Games announces a new era
The A.V. Club's games section gets a major boost as Paste's and Endless Mode's games coverage joins the site.

Fascinated by this DLC. There's so much increased depth and dynamism in just the China portion—this character's heir (not the one who inherited his name and married an imperial princess, long story) was about to pass the capital examination, when the emperor suddenly lost the mandate of heaven.
Been enjoying the CK3 Asia Expansion, playing as Song Jiang, an unlanded mercenary who was apparently a historical-and-mythologized bandit, but I'm roleplaying him as obsessed with "going legit" and so he takes (and fails) the capital examination every couple years, but refuses to stoop to cheating

I am hearing there’s even more going on over there.

Much love to the writers there, this industry is brutal and I hope you land on your feet.
Today, Paste Magazine shuttered all its non-music verticals, a choice I am both professionally and personally heartbroken about. Sadly, I am once again looking for a place that wants to let me write about Books and TV on the regular, so hit me up if that’s you or anyone you know.

Like all men but moreso he was a climber. One foot then another in front of another. He was the architect of his muddy world and his tower that he climbed above the mud and I was obsessed. He was Icarus and I was the wax and he was the sun. "Uwu" he would say to me. The palindrome that was his soul.

He was a Whopper, I was a McRib—back for a limited time, only at participating locations. He told me to "have it your way," I was content enough to say "I'm lovin' it." Could I really be his Burger Queen? He doesn't have a worm in his brain by the way. So the memes are wrong, the ones about the worm

Suppose that kind of closes the book on CS2—I just don't see it ever getting shored up in time to compete with whatever the new citybuilder hotness is in a year or two (tho for all I know the answer to that may in all honesty be CS1 still). Such a disappointment they never really allowed the mods in
Paradox and Colossal Order "mutually decided to pursue independent paths" and Skylines 2 is being moved to another studio. I guess something had to give eventually, and I suppose I'm glad they're not just sunsetting the whole thing at this point.

"and that comes from wal-mart...and others...that do that." I love the way that every other sentence his brain introduces a mouth problem for itself that it has to elegantly pivot away from. it's like the tango, call and response happening in real time
Trump shamelessly lies: "Go to Walmart and other companies, and in every case it's about 25% that a Thanksgiving meal and surroundings are 25% lower. That's big fact."

ever do that thing where you're streaming a sporting event live and accidentally pause the stream, so you unpause it and and click "live" to go back to the real-time feed but it just says "you are watching it live" even though you know you're like 4 sec behind?? anyway I think that explains QAnon

it's still weird to be rooting for Harrison Barnes after all these years but man he's showing his veteran worth—having someone in there you can rely on to make the right play 99% of the time is such an invaluable trait when you run these weaker 2nd units. Stems the bleeding or gains you + minutes

Lostprophets were formative enough for me to be an active poster on their forums, back when that was a thing. Soundtrack to a major portion of my life, and every now-and-then I'll try to fire up one of those songs that were huge for me to try to rekindle things and it's like nibbling tinfoil.
"what if someone you like is on the Epstein list?"

When I was in my early 20s stories about the abuse committed by The Casualties frontman Jorge Herrera began to seep out. I dropped em like a wet sack of shit.

When Justin Sane turned out to be a monster, I deleted Anti-Flag from my music library.
